We will rent a house boat for one week in May. We start in Gizycko. We are 3 adults and a dog looking for quiet places in the nature where we can sit at the campfire, cook our own food, maybe get some beers at a nearby kiosk and walk the dog or take a bike tour sometimes.
We are not so much interested in seeing churches, castles or museums. We prefer the woods and animals. As far as I see it so far, the north offers more woods than the south and the center part does not seem to fit our needs.
Does anyone have a recommendation?

Why south? Aren't there more woods in the north?
Any particular places in the south you'd recommend?

Sure, but both north and south offer relative peace and serenity. If you're looking for a really quiet place then I recommend lake Stręgiel and its smaller brother Stręgielek which are to the east of Węgorzewo, so the northernmost parts of the main Mazurian lakes. Be warned that there is a 3m tall bridge that you have to get under to get to Stręgiel though.

As for appropriate places for a campfire, some beer and (sea) shanties, if that's your thing, I recommend a bay called Zimny Kąt which is also in the northern Mazurian region. It's ideal for people who enjoy nature (it's semi wild, if you will) but make sure to lock your doors as a precaution there. There is a place for a campfire and its overall a very pleasant stay.

I also recommend lake Jagodne and a small place called "Bila" (it's on Google maps). Stying there grants you the perfect place for witnessing gorgeous sunsets and there is a place to make a campfire. The water is very clean but there is no jetty (you'll have to jump onto the shore from the boat).

All of these places are surrounded by woods.

If you have any more questions or would like some more info just ask (I can only give info on the North, I'm afraid)! Hope I helped :-D

Do they allow motor boats there? My (old) book says No.

They actually do allow motorhomes and speedboats on Stręgiel, but please don't make a lot of noise by revving your engine, especially when there are other sailors on the lake as well. ;-)

In general: Would you say the North fits our expectations better than the south? Any concrete suggestions for the south?
I guess doing both regions within 6 days is unrealistic...

6 days is absolutely reallistic.
I think, the draft and construction of Your boat will not let You for comfortable mooring not in marinas. On the south You have some marinas nearby forests/trees (what You like). But in 6 days You can visit all the route.
Remember, that You can not go everythere with motor boat (f.eg. a part of Nidskie Lake is closed for You, same as Dargin Lake).
